"JESUS WILL FIX IT"

Song is sung by Lee Williams

Freedom From Addiction | Through Jesus Christ

Freedom From Addictive Behavior

You don’t have to stay trapped in the same cycle.

Addictive behavior can feel overwhelming. What begins as a choice can slowly become something that feels controlling, exhausting, and difficult to break.

But no matter how strong the pattern is, freedom is possible in Jesus Christ.

What Is Addictive Behavior?

Addictive behavior is a pattern that begins to take control of thoughts, actions, and decisions.

It often starts as a way to cope with pain, stress, or emotional wounds—but over time, it can become something that controls a person rather than serves them.

Addiction affects:

  • The mind
  • Emotions
  • Relationships
  • Spiritual life
  • Personal reputation and future

The Cycle That Keeps People Stuck

Most addiction follows a repeating cycle:

  • Pain or stress
  • Temporary escape through a behavior or substance
  • Short relief
  • Regret or consequences
  • Deeper emotional struggle

Then the cycle repeats.

What once felt like relief eventually becomes bondage.

Why Addiction Is So Hard to Break

Addiction often grows from unresolved hurt or a “sense of injury.” When pain is not healed, people naturally look for escape.

This can lead to:

  • Compulsive behavior
  • Emotional numbing
  • Dependency
  • Loss of self-control

Over time, the behavior begins to feel stronger than the person’s ability to resist it.

Types of Addictive Behavior

Substance-related

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Prescription misuse
  • Nicotine

Behavioral addictions

  • Pornography
  • Gambling
  • Social media addiction
  • Gaming
  • Shopping or spending addiction

Internal and emotional patterns

  • Bitterness and resentment
  • Compulsive lying
  • Obsessive thinking
  • People-pleasing
  • Emotional escape patterns

Warning Signs of Addiction

Behavioral Signs

  • Loss of control over stopping
  • Repeated failure to stop
  • Hiding the behavior
  • Neglecting responsibilities

Emotional Signs

  • Guilt or regret afterward
  • Mood changes when unable to engage
  • Using the behavior to escape pain or stress

Mental Signs

  • Constant thoughts about the behavior
  • Feeling powerless to change
  • Rationalizing continued use

Spiritual Signs

  • Distance from God
  • Weakened conviction
  • Justifying what once felt wrong

Real-Life Consequences

Addiction does not stay private forever.

It can lead to:

  • Broken relationships
  • Loss of trust
  • Financial hardship
  • Job or school failure
  • Legal consequences
  • Damage to personal reputation

What begins in private can eventually become public and affect every area of life.

“But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.”
—Numbers 32:23 (KJV)

“For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.” — Luke 8:17 (KJV)

The Spiritual Reality of Addiction

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world…”
—Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
—1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man…”
—1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

Sexual Purity and Freedom in Jesus Christ

Sexual struggles are among the most private and difficult battles many people face. They often involve hidden habits, internal conflict, and cycles that feel hard to break.

But no matter how long someone has struggled, freedom is possible in Jesus Christ.

God’s design for sexuality is not meant to bring shame, but to bring order, peace, and wholeness. When that design is distorted, it can lead to guilt, secrecy, and spiritual distance. Yet through Jesus Christ, restoration is always possible.

A Battle of the Mind and Spirit

Sexual temptation often begins in the mind and thought life. When thoughts are not controlled, they can develop into patterns that feel difficult to overcome.

This struggle is spiritual and mental, requiring surrender to Jesus Christ and renewal of the mind.

God’s Call to Purity

“For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”
—1 Thessalonians 4:7 (KJV)

Purity is not about perfection—it is about direction.

Breaking Free Through Jesus Christ

  • Bring the struggle to God in prayer
  • Renew your mind with Scripture
  • Remove access to triggers
  • Seek accountability and support
  • Replace harmful patterns with godly habits

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
—John 8:36 (KJV)

No Condemnation in Jesus Christ

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…”
—Romans 8:1 (KJV)

A Sobering Thought

If a person were in the middle of an addictive moment when Jesus Christ were to return…

How would they feel standing before Him?

“Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.”
—Luke 12:40 (KJV)

Breaking Free From Addiction

  • Honest recognition of the struggle
  • Prayer and surrender to God
  • Renewing your mind with truth
  • Avoiding triggers and harmful environments
  • Seeking accountability and support

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
—John 8:36 (KJV)

Wisdom and Separation

“From such turn away.”
—2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)

Moving Forward in Freedom

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
—Psalm 147:3 (KJV)

Final Thoughts

Addictive behavior often begins as an escape from pain, but it can lead to deeper bondage over time.

Freedom begins with honesty, continues with surrender, and is sustained through faith in Jesus Christ.

God is able to break every chain and bring true deliverance.
